Berry - Cal

Source: Waynetown Hornet Jan 28, 1888 p1

At the death of his mother, Cal Berry came into possession of an estate worth several thousand dollars - today he is a chattering idiot and a terror to his wife and child - all caused by drink.  He has abused his wife at different times and threatened her life often.  Wednesday he made an attempt to kill her again while crazed with liquor and was put under bonds to keep the peace, but when released filled up with whisky and proceeded to terrorize a defenseless woman.  Not long since he put $900 in the bank with the remark that he only wanted to live long enough to drink it up.  There is only $334 left and that would have been gone had the cashier of the bank allowed him to withdraw it out.  His affairs have been put in the hands of a guardian wherewith he .. save him from further ruin and the wife and child will be provided for out of the remainder of his property.  --
